My favorite part of the whole process of making pottery, is creating the piece on the pottery wheel. To watch a skilled potter work at the wheel is very fascinating, almost magical, and looks deceptively simple.  The wonder of watching a lump of clay transform into a vessel is amazing.  Being a potter is challenging and sometimes frustrating,  but at the same time addictive and rewarding. No two pots are ever exactly alike.  Where it is sitting in the kiln, the thickness of the glaze, the length of time it takes to fire, and many other variables causes each piece to be one of a kind.  I am always worried, but also excited to open the kiln after it has cooled.  In every firing there are pleasant surprises and sometimes disappointing ones.
